Inside the Role of a PPO at Bath ASU

At Bath ASU, every detail matters. Behind every medicine prepared is a team of Pharmaceutical Production Operators (PPOs) working with care, consistency and quiet precision.

For Oliver Green, that focus on the patients behind the medicines, safety and quality is exactly what drew him to the role.

“I’m naturally drawn to practical, hands-on work”, he says. “This role isn’t about sitting back – it’s about being fully involved, following precise processes, and making sure everything meets the highest standards.”

It’s a role where focus and responsibility go hand in hand.

Working in controlled cleanroom environments, PPOs follow strict Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards to prepare medicines that are safe, sterile and tailored to individual patients.

“It’s about getting things right the first time”, Oliver explains. “You’re working in an environment where accuracy really matters – and knowing that what you’re doing contributes to safe and effective medicines makes it meaningful.”

A team built on trust

While the work demands precision, it is the people that make the biggest difference day to day.

“Cleanroom work relies on teamwork”, Oliver says. “We’re constantly supporting each other, double-checking processes and making sure everything is done properly. That trust and communication make even the busiest days manageable.”

It’s a shared responsibility – one that creates a strong sense of connection across the team.

The moments that matter

There are points in the process where the responsibility of the role becomes especially clear.

“The checking stages really bring it home”, Oliver explains. “You’re reviewing every detail, making sure everything is exactly right. There’s very little room for error, because even a small mistake can affect what comes next.”

Those moments are a reminder of the bigger picture – that every step plays a part in a much larger chain of care.

Making a difference, every day

For Oliver, the most rewarding part of the role is seeing his own development, while knowing his work contributes to something meaningful.

“As you gain confidence and move into different areas, you can see your own progress”, he says. “But it’s also knowing that what you’ve done helps ensure patients receive the treatment they need.”

It’s that combination of growth, teamwork and purpose that defines the PPO role at Bath ASU.

And for those who value precision, responsibility and being part of something that truly matters – it’s a role where you can see the impact of your work every single day.
